Looking for Your Participation!

We are always looking for parents and guardians to attend our monthly School Council and EFS Children's Society Meetings. Whether you wish to attend one or a few meetings, or become more involved with the council and/or society - we encourage you to join us! Meetings provide opportunities to:

  • Share your ideas and feedback
  • Participate in school development and planning
  • Learn about student learning and supports through our teacher presentations
  • Hear from special guest speakers in the Calgary community
  • Make connections with other EFS families
  • Help build our community

One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

This year, students and staff engaged in our Truth and Reconciliation Commitment (TRC), guided by the Indigenous Education Committee and the Land-Based Learning Committee. Throughout the year, they deepened their understanding of Indigenous values such as reciprocity and respect. Classes participated in a variety of activities to explore these ideas, including creating personalized land acknowledgments, connecting with the land through sit spots, and learning about reciprocity through heart gardens and community walks.

About Our School Council

We have an open invitation to all Parents/Guardians to attend our monthly School Council meetings. Because we are a small community, we encourage as many members as possible to participate! Participants can attend School Council meetings conveniently in-person at EFS and/or online/virtually on the third Thursday of every month unless otherwise posted.

At each meeting we have the opportunity to review activities and updates from the school, discuss important topics such as student enrichment opportunities, budgets, fundraising opportunities and upcoming events. We also have the pleasure of seeing interesting presentations from teachers at school on topics that give us more insight into what our children are doing and how they are supported by EFS.
