Student Learning | Music at EFS
This year we are exploring learning through music at EFS! We are excited to announce that our Music Teacher, Breton, is supporting learning through music through using innovative approaches to ensure music is accessible to all EFS students. Students have been enjoying utilizing adaptive equipment such as switch-operated instruments and vibration-based devices, in addition to tactile and auditory experiences.
EFS students also participate in music therapy with Music Therapist, Shannon, who provides weekly music therapy sessions with classes. Music therapy leverages the power of music to achieve health, wellness and goal-oriented outcomes with use of musical interventions. Students also enjoy Music with Dylan sessions on a weekly basis. Dylan, who is blind and has Autism, has a natural talent for music. He writes his own songs and his love for music is apparent as he enthusiastically sings and plays his keyboard for our students. It is wonderful to see students engaged in these sessions by clapping, moving and vocalizing.
Music with Breton | February & March
It’s been such a fun return to music class in 2025. We have dived into a bunch of fun new songs about the New Year, and so enjoyed a singable book called Secrets of Winter. This book had us learning about what animals are doing to keep safe in the Winter and uses a flashlight to find hidden pictures within the pages- so much fun! We have moved into a study of world music. Using the book Pete the Cat’s World Tour, we are listening to music from all over the world while seeing some videos and photos from these countries. We are also so enjoying a song about the Story of Nian by Miss Katie Sings about a story for the Lunar New Year. We will be moving into some new songs for February and March focusing on feelings, positive affirmations and friendship. All our music classes continue to focus on embedding literacy, math, movement, and instrument songs as well.
