February & March
Wow! How is February already upon us? We are all looking forward to February as we will be wrapping up our learning about animals in winter, reading the rest of Owls in the Family by Farley Mowat, and wrapping up our learning about the 7 Grandfather Teachings. Our U of C student Teacher, Chloe, will be back to finish up her long practicum and will be taking over the majority of teaching duties by the end of February. Chloe is looking forward to her return to our classroom and will be bringing an abundance of new learning for all of us!
November, December & January
Happy Fall Everyone! We have had a fun time learning about being scientists! We have done a lot of experiments, collected data and used all of our senses just like real scientists do! We even did research projects and presentations that included experiments! We have read a variety of storybooks and non-fiction books related to our learning. We are currently reading Stellaluna and learning about the similarities and differences between birds and bats. We also have welcomed a practicum student, Chloe from the University of Calgary, into our room and look forward to working with her through her learning journey. Chloe will be with us for 6 weeks this term and then again for 8 weeks in February to April.
September & October
Welcome back to school everyone! I hope you all found some rest, relaxation, laughter and love over the summer break. I am so happy to be back in school with five new students and one new team member. We have gotten to know one another and have settled into a bit of a routine, so we are ready to get going with some interactive and fun learning from the science and social studies curriculum. We have just started a little unit about our five senses that will guide us into our unit called “Being a Scientist”.
Our big fall learning will be an extensive look at apples. We will also be weaving some Indigenous learning throughout this unit and all of the others as we make connections between our curriculum and land-based learning. Our Intentional Read Aloud books this quarter includes a variety of picture books and short chapter books related to our weekly literacy and curricular focus.
