Additional Information
Medications & Doctor's Orders
All medications administered by our nursing team require a signed doctor's order and/or prescription. When there is a change or addition to medication, a new order will need to be provided to the nursing team. Please ask your doctor to fax a copy of the original doctor’s order directly to Classic LifeCare. It is important to understand that if a doctor’s order and/or prescription has not been received, the medication cannot be administered to your child. This includes:
- Antibiotics, medicated creams and/or sprays
- Tylenol, Advil and/or other general pain relievers
Important! Submit your Doctor’s Orders for Medication and/or Prescription via fax to:
Classic LifeCare Office t | 403-242-2750 f | 403-242-2759
If your child is not a client of Classic LifeCare, the school requires a signed Student Health Form on file prior to the administration of medication. All medications and/or pain relievers must be in original packaging with dosage instructions. An EFS staff member, not a nursing team member, will be responsible for administering any medications and/or general pain relievers.
Sending Medication to School
All medications must come to school in the original packaging, along with doctor’s orders and/or prescription. Please send a supply of medication to be kept at school. You will be notified when we require additional medication. Only short-term medications (eg. antibiotics, topical creams) will be sent to and from school daily. Note | Expired medications will be sent home to be replaced.
At the beginning of each month, please send 10cc or 20 cc syringes for each medication. All PRN medication (eg. Ativan, epi-pens, ventolin) must have current doctor’s orders, and the medication should not be past the expiry date. Emergency medication should be kept in your child’s backpack at all times.
Students Not Assigned to Nursing Support
Students who are not Classic LifeCare clients must have a signed Student Health Form on file prior to the administration of any non-prescription (eg. Tylenol, advil, etc.) and/or prescription medication (eg. antibiotics, prescribed creams, etc.). In these cases, a school staff member, other than the nursing team, will administer the medication once we have the authority to do so
