Teacher Topics

Each month, a member of our EFS Team will be presenting a Teacher Topic to share how our staff adapts, engages and inspires student learning and well-being. This month, our Teacher Topic will be:

March 19 | The Ability Workshop (Presented by: Diane Hall)

We have a special guest presentation by the Ability Workshop Society who helps create solutions for individuals with disabilities. Diane Hall will help highlight the specialized tools and adaptive equipment, developed by the Ability Workshop Society, that we use at Emily Follensbee School to support students. These innovative solutions are designed to remove barriers and empower students to participate more independently in learning, recreation, and daily activities.

April 28 | Social Emotional Learning through Culturally Responsible Teacher (Presented by: Krista)

Explore the value of considering diversity and inclusion and each student's unique identity and background in order to create, and to elevate, a welcoming, caring, safe and respectful school environment.

May 21 | Differentiating Writing for Students with Complex Needs (Presented by: Thea) ** Time Change | 11:30 am**

Thea will present three ways that students at Emily Follensbee School are engaging in writing activities. These are writing by me, writing with adults and writing from adults.

June 18 | Indigenous Education & Land as a Co-Teacher at EFS (Presented by: Sarah G)

This year, students and staff engaged in our Truth and Reconciliation Commitment (TRC), guided by the Indigenous Education Committee and the Land-Based Learning Committee. Throughout the year, they deepened their understanding of Indigenous values such as reciprocity and respect. Classes participated in a variety of activities to explore these ideas, including creating personalized land acknowledgments, connecting with the land through sit spots, and learning about reciprocity through heart gardens and community walks.
